Amsterdam Research Institute for Legal Studies

ACELG guest researcher Beatrice Russo

15 March 2017

In the months April to July 2016, ACELG welcomes Beatrice Russo, PhD fellow at the Università degli Studi della Campania L. Vanvitelli, for a research stay in Amsterdam.

At ACELG, Beatrice Russo will pursue her research project on gender discrimination in the field of sport, which she approaches at three different levels, i.e. by employing a feminist interpretation of jurisprudence, by analyzing the European Union and International regulatory approach and by defining comparative case studies. Gender discrimination in sport is a phenomenon which manifests itself in different forms, e.g. the perception of male and female sporters, the gap in their economic treatment or their possibility to gain professional status (prohibited by law for female Italian athletes for example). With her PhD project, Beatrice Russo not only aims for a  mere comparative observation of the gender discrimination phenomenon in sport, but the identification and promotion of regulations and policies that could achieve gender equality in this field.

Beatrice Russo is an Italian lawyer and PhD Fellow at the "Università degli Studi della Campania L. Vanvitelli-SUN". She has authored several articles and case studies and has contributed to a series of legal and political publications. Furthermore she has participated, as guest speaker, in various conferences at the Italian Senate and, as guest lecturer, in different Universities, such as "Ca Foscari - Univeristy" in Venice and "Università degli Studi di Roma Tre" in Rome. Beatrice has been "Cultore della materia" (Subject Expert) in Administrative Law (Sports and Regulations), at the Università degli Studi di Roma Foro Italico and she collaborates with the academic Foundation Foro Italico and the Cultura Democratica Foundation (European think tank on legal and political topics). She is co-director of the "Labour and Welfare" section of the Scientific Magazine Innovazione & Riforme and "Young Leader" in "The Pacific Forum CSIS".
