Congratulations to Professor Yvonne Donders for her election to the United Nations Human Rights Committee, 2023-2026. The Human Rights Committee monitors the implementation by States parties of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights. Members of the Committee are independent experts of recognized competence in human rights, serving in their personal capacity.

Professor Yvonne Donders has extensive academic and practical experience in and knowledge of human rights at national and international level. She is Professor International Human Rights and Cultural Diversity and Head of the Department of International and European Public Law, University of Amsterdam. As a Commissioner at the Netherlands Institute for Human Rights, she is involved in monitoring human rights at national level, and as part of this she advises government and parliament on the human rights dimensions and implications of legislation and policies. 

Professor Yvonne Donders is keen to use her experience, knowledge and personal dedication to contribute to the work of the Human Rights Committee and to strengthen coordination and cooperation between the various United Nations Treaty Bodies.
