Her research focuses on intersectionality theory as an interdisciplinary study and how this theory can affect the concept and single-axis framework of discrimination in Law. She takes a socio-legal approach to her research and chose a qualitative biographical research methodology. So far she has conducted 25 interviews to analyse how the Iranian legal system marginalizes the experiences of women living in Tabriz city at the intersection of gender, ethnicity, class, and religion. 

Shiva chose UvA and ACELG due to the numerous ongoing research projects in the realm of gender study and the expertise of its staff members in the field of gender equality and interdisciplinary work. During her research visit at ACELG, she is focusing on the intersectionality literature in European law and the role of European states and institutions like the EU in the equality discourse with a perspective on European women's intersectional discrimination experience in comparison with Iranian women.
