ACELG welcomes Merve Sizer as a research visitor from 21 July 2021. Merve is a PhD student at Ankara University Faculty of Law and a fourth-year lawyer registered at the Ankara Bar Association in Turkey. Her master thesis was titled "The Role of the Principle of the Best Interests of Children in Decisions on Removal of Foreigners From the Country".

For Turkish legal literature, such a study in the area of immigration law was quite innovative due to the political turmoil that occurred in the Middle East in recent years. It was deemed worthy of an honorable mention within the scope of Child Rights Studies Graduate Thesis Awards in partnership with Raoul Wallenberg Institute, Lund University and Özyeğin University Faculty of Law Interdisciplinary Child Rights Laboratory. Her research has been published as a book in Turkey.

During her stay at ACELG, she will study the protection of the best interests of migrant children under EU law.
