Bonger Institute
Our research is generally aimed at processes of criminalization. Within this frame we conduct empirical research on a broad range of topics, including drugs and security, in connection to policy and policy developments. On a local, regional, and (inter)national scale research is conducted on specific subgroups, such as people who enjoy the nightlife, drug dealers and prostitutes, but also on the general population. We adopt both qualitative and quantitative research methods, adjusted to the subject group and the theme.
Results of our research are published in international scientific journals and comprehensible reports. Summaries and full reports can be downloaded from this website.
Apart from conducting research, the Bonger Institute offers academic courses in the form of bachelor- and master-level electives, paper tutoring and internships.
Our research is financed by, among others, (inter)national scientific foundations, municipalities, regional authorities, ministries and NGOs. The Bonger Institute participates in many collaborations and our employees take part in diverse committees both inside and outside the Netherlands. Also, the institute hosts the Secretariat of the European Society for Social Drug Research (ESSD) for which we organize an international conference annually.
