On Monday, 6 November, 2023, the Dutch newspaper NOS published an article on reimbursement of follow-up breast reconstructions for breast cancer patients in The Netherlands. In the article " Lawyers: breast reconstructions not reimbursed by default is discrimination," Corrette Ploem, of the Law Centre for Health and Life, is featured in the article, elaborating her opinion on the matter.

The article highlights the ongoing discussion of this issue and the push for more transparent and equitable guidelines for reimbursement of follow-up surgeries following breast reconstruction in breast cancer patients. Legal experts, including Corrette Ploem of the Law Center for Health and Life, argue that the criteria and assessment processes used for these surgeries, unlike other cancers, have no clear justification and may violate the equal treatment mandated by the Constitution. It also argues that the responsibility for determining whether follow-up surgery is necessary should rest with the plastic surgeon and not the health insurance company.

hy should that assessment be moved to the health insurance companies? That's not where plastic surgeons sit who know the most about it. Corrette Ploem in NOS
