Information is power.  Who has access to it? How fast can we share it? How can we protect it from prying eyes?  Who profits from the way society answers these questions? Citizens and businesses alike struggle with these questions every day.

The Institute for Information law (IViR) studies all legal aspects of information production, storage and distribution, but focuses on two central research questions: Which fundamental rights shape the information process? Which rules govern the information market?

The first question focuses on issues of communication, privacy and intellectual property.  The second studies information in media law, postal and telecommunications law and competition law.  Given the political nature of these topics, researchers regularly take part in public debate.
