Congratulations to Catherine (Kiki) Brölmann on her appointment to the chair of Public International Law. Kiki brings to the Chair extensive research and teaching experience, gained in a long-term affiliation with UvA and in many other collaborations and international visiting positions.

Kiki approaches international law as a doctrinal, discursive, and social system that cuts across a range of substantive fields. Building on this perspective, her research often examines the 'public' dimension of international law. For example, in the context of international lawmaking or international organisations.

When it comes to research and education, she firmly believes that current times call for both high-quality research within positive international law and critical scholarly reflection on that law -- sometimes in conversation.

Professor Brölmann has taken on the role of Head of the Department of International and European Law, and from that position will support the research endeavours and opportunities of ACIL colleagues, especially in a time of impending government cuts.

She will have her inaugural lecture later this academic year.
